Though born in San Francisco, Nashville singer-songwriter Josh Gray grew up thousands of miles away in Maryland. He got his first guitar at age 16 but didn’t play his first live show until 15 years later. When asked what took so long, he simply says, “I wasn’t ready.”

This theme of taking the time to get things right becomes apparent when you hear his music. His thoughtful and often poetic lyrics stick with you long after the songs end. Josh Gray’s sound is a mixture of the folk, blues, country, and rock that first inspired him to pick up a guitar. He’s a storyteller, protest singer, and poet, bridging both generations and genres to form his signature style of songwriting.

2015 saw Josh Gray release his self-titled debut EP recorded in Frederick, MD. Just one block from the coffee shop where a friend first dared him to play. That year Josh Gray put nearly 30,000 miles on his car traveling all over MD, PA, WV, and VA. Sometimes seven nights a week, playing shows and open mics.

Looking to improve his skills, Gray moved to Nashville in 2016. Wrangling together some of the best musicians in Music City he formed his band, Josh Gray and the Dark Features. Not having the money to record, they turned to crowdfunding. They surpassed their goal, funding the album with fan support.

“Songs of the Highway” was recorded to tape at the renowned Bomb Shelter in East Nashville. Since its release, it has garnered glowing reviews in Nashville and beyond. This second album landed Gray a distribution deal in the Netherlands. It was named one of the top albums of the decade by Hi-Tones Record Store in Rocklin, CA. In the Netherlands, it was voted a top ten album of 2019 out of 600 albums at Cd-afdeling Warenhuis Vanderveen Assen.

In 2022 Josh Gray ran another successful crowdfunding campaign to record his newest album “Walk Alone.” This time he has partnered with CRS in the Netherlands to distribute into record stores all over Europe. Upon its 2023 release, “Walk Alone” reached #8 on the Euro Americana charts (staying on the chart for 7 months) and #1 on the Dutch Americana & Roots Top13 chart. The album is critically acclaimed worldwide and praised by radio DJs who are playing it weekly from New Zealand to Norway. So far 2024 has seen Gray embark on a successful full-band tour throughout the Netherlands, selling out many of the venues.
